AIBD 2008 National Convention Offers an
Unprecedented Green Building Education Lineup,
Celebrity Speakers and Live Exhibit Hall Workshops!

Celebrity Speakers…
Leading off a full day of education and tradeshow on Friday, July 25, 2008 is a keynote address by Virginia McAlester, co-author of A Field Guide to American Houses.  After sharing her vision of where she sees the future of residential design in America, she will do a full session on the history of American residential architecture.  Completing the “Design Track” is “Katrina Cottage” designer, Marianne Cusato, who will be hosting two sessions, each on the topic of her books Getting Your House Right and The Value of Design.

Department of Energy announces a new program…
Are your clients asking about green design techniques?  AIBD has put together a series of classes never offered before as an ensemble to help you give them the answers.  Learn about the USGBC LEED for Homes Program and the NAHB National Green Building Program.  Following these two presentations, the Department of Energy is unveiling it’s Designed to Earn the Energy Star Program and they have chosen the AIBD National Convention as the site of their first public presentation.  Attend this one event and learn about all three programs.

Getting down to Business…
Improve your professionalism by attending a group of business related sessions designed to assist in the areas of copyright law, remodeling design and how to get the most from your AIBD membership.  Speakers Floyd Yarnell, Esq., James Lucia, AIBD and Mike Keesee, AIBD host separate sessions geared toward helping build and secure your business.

Education and Exhibiting…
For the first time, AIBD will be hosting educational programs during the annual trade show.  Opening at noon, the exhibit hall will be the site for three one-hour seminars.  Presented by Whirlpool and School, a clinic on using Sketchup begins the schedule, followed by a presentation on open web floor systems by Open Joist 2000 and then “Enlightened Space” by Velux.

Architectural Tour
Enjoy a Hard Hat tour of the Corinthian Hall at the Kansas City Museum, formerly the Robert A. Long mansion.  Get a behind the scenes look at this restoration project in action.  In addition, tour Longview Farms, established in 1914.  The rich legacies of landmark structures are what make it such a special place.

See historic Longview Mansion and the former Longview Show Horse Arena – now Longview Farm Elementary School.  Also view New Longview Farms a traditional neighborhood designed development of new homes.  Lunch at Kansas City’s legendary Jack Stack Barbeque is included with the tours.
