JOIN AIBD

In today's market a new professional is emerging, the Building Designer. Exemptions in the architectural laws allow anyone to prepare house plans. The American Institute of Building Design sets the standards for professionalism and ethics in an unregulated portion of the architectural industry. In addition, the AIBD provides valuable education and mentoring of a discipline that presently is typically not taught in American academia.

The AIBD also provides legislative support to the industry by lobbying to local and state officials and by participating in the code development process. As a consequence of these actions, municipalities that initially intended on limiting the preparation of single family house plans to only architects and engineers, have broadened their scope to include Certified Professional Building Designers. With these small victories under our belt, the AIBD has increased it's exposure to the building industry by contributing to nine national and regional building shows as either an exhibitor, sponsor, or by providing educational seminars. Thanks to the efforts of AIBD, more and more people are successfully operating Residential Design firms throughout the United States. More than eighty percent of the members in AIBD own their firms and collectively they account for over fourteen billion dollars of custom home development, twelve billion dollars of speculative development, twenty one billion of tract development, and almost four billion of remodeling value. In addition, AIBD members create over 150,000 stock plans sold through plan magazines and web sites annually.
