Presently, AIBD Executive Director, Steve Mickley is in California where he has attended the CA Society annual convention and is proctoring an NCBDC Certified Professional Building Designer exam. During his travels in Southern California, Steve forwarded this photo of the building where, according to the meeting minutes, was the site of the first meeting of the AIBD board of directors on July 11, 1950. “Based on the brick style and ornamentation, it appears to me the building is the same as it probably was in 1950, with the exception of the new storefronts.” Says Steve. The building is located at 114 E. Union Street, Pasadena, CA. At that time, the Institute was named the United Designers Association. It wasn’t until 1958

Steve was in Pasadena touring the city and local hotels seeking a site for the AIBD 2013 National Convention.
