AIBD still seeks design teams for IBS competition.
Competition date: Tuesday, February 4
Judging date: Wednesday, February 5
Award announced: Thursday, February 6
The Best in American Living Awards is expanding and becoming involved in local communities through a live design competition that is conducted at the International Builders’ Show. Builders, Remodelers, Architects and Designers were encouraged to participate and give back to the community through good design. IBS attendees got to watch as the design process unfolded in front of their eyes on the exhibit floor as well as observe the design teams present their work to a panel of judges.
In 2013, the NAHB Design Committee partnered with the American Institute of Building Design (AIBD) and Operation Finally Home to put on the live design competition. The competition focused on designing a home for one of America’s wounded veterans returning from war. Working with set parameters, such as lot size, square footage, energy efficiency, accessibility and style, design teams had nine hours to complete their designs.

Sign up now for AIBD’s 2014 Volunteer Day.
Date: August 2, 2014 – Registration is open NOW!
Looking for a great hands-on team-building experience? Thanks to generous donations by Sauder Woodworking, AIBD has the opportunity for 15 volunteers to work together assembling, sanding, and painting kitchen tables and other furniture items from kits. No experience required – instructions, tools, and safety equipment will be provided. This great experience is limited to 15 volunteers. Advanced registration is really, really appreciated. If the registration is full, please sign up for our waiting list; someone may cancel. There is no cost to participate and you don’t have to bring any tools. You’re only contribution is your time and talents (and the talents needed to perform your tasks can be learned when you get there).
This volunteer event is a part of the AIBD Annual Convention and marks the fifth year the Institute has contributed to the local community hosting the conference. Beginning with Socks for Soldiers in Portland, OR (2010), AIBD has also landscaped a home for the Inter City Christian Federation in Grand Rapids, MI (2011) and sided a house for the Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity near Wilmington, NC (2012). This past year, AIBD’s volunteer day was canceled at the last minute, but attendees at the convention raised $1350 to donate, along with a 54″ TV, to the San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity.
