…Industry sends recommendations to ICC

Representing the AIBD, Steve Mickley reports that the ICC Industry Advisory Committee voted last week to send two recommendations to the ICC Board of Directors. The committee, which is largely populated by product manufacturer and standards developing organizations, voted to recommend continuing with the three year code development cycles. This action was in response to approximately two-thirds of states amending their statutes to allow municipalities to extend the adoption timeline up to six years. Steve reports, “The committee is concerned with the ability to introduce new products and methodologies with as little delay as possible.”

In addition, the ICC staff presented the proposed cdpACCESS program designed to utilize electronic technology to increase stakeholder participation in the code development process. The process would include remote governmental voting at the end of the development cycle and the recommendation voted on by the committee moves that element further up in the process to be immediately following the Committee Action Hearing (formally the Code Development Hearing).
