June 27, 2016. What’s happening @AIBD_National?

2016 Summer architectural tour announced.

The AIBD Conference Committee has released the details and opened the registration for this summer’s architectural tour. This year’s excursion will approach the question, “Rules or no rules?” By touring a variety of additions and Infills in Denver’s hottest zip codes, learn the many ways to add on or into an older neighborhood. Join this bus and walking tour of some of Denver’s most desirable neighborhoods, where development pressure has resulted in scrapes, “pop tops”, and massive whole house remodels.

See the difference that design review makes in a regulated Historic District, vs. a neighborhood of similar vintage where the free market rules, and draw your own conclusions. Nothing is certain except change, and Denver’s booming economy has brought massive change to many of its favorite neighborhoods. Some of it is good, some of it bad, and some just plain ugly!

Join AIBD Professional member Doug Walter, who currently serves on the Denver Landmark Preservation Commission, and Barbara Stocklin-Steely, former lead planner for the LPC and now independent consultant , for a lively tour and candid discussion, with a picnic lunch in one of Denver’s many parks en route. The tour will be about half on the bus and half walking.

NCBDC seeks CPBD exam question authors.

Attention building designer experts! The National Council of Building Designer Certification (NCBDC) is currently in need of content experts to write questions for the next generation of Certified Professional Building Designer exams. There is no limit to how many volunteers we can work with. The more volunteers there are the less questions any one individual will have to author.

All volunteers will receive professional item writing training via webinars. A doodle poll will determine when we’ll run the online training and each volunteer needs to be available for one one of the the 1-hour webinars. Everyone will be asked to focus on their area, or areas of expertise. The CPBD exam has approximately 120 knowledge and skill areas it intends to test on and the Council would like to have three to five questions about each one available in an item bank to pull from with the online tests are compiled and delivered.

Item writers will then have through the summer to prepare and submit their questions. The next team of volunteers will sift through the item bank in Mid-October and determine exactly which questions will actually be used on the exams.

Anyone interested, please contact the AIBD office by writing info@AIBD.org or calling 1-800-366-2423.
