Palm Beach Chapter web meeting, Friday

Join the AIBD Palm Beach Chapter as they host one of their required two business meetings online.

The purpose of the meeting is to establish their meeting plans for 2017. In addition, AIBD Executive Director, Steve Mickley, will be updating the chapter on some of the projects issued by our board of directors, as well as a presentation on how to turn the current “Guide to Residential Design Specialists” consumer booklet (www.aibd.org/free-guide) into a 60 to 90 minute live and interactive presentation.

“The ‘guide’ is filled with great advice to homeowners and I think we can easily get our local press to publicize the presentations for free.” Steve predicts.

His idea is to create a detailed outline, using the guide, and enlist four local designers to make the presentation. Each having 15 to 20 minutes.

The four topics to be covered include:

  • How to Find the Right Building Designer
  • Your Role on the Design Team
  • Prioritizing Your “Wish List”
  • The Design Process

Please RSVP. GoToMeeting space is limited to 25 participants.

Salt Lake City Chapter Organizational Meeting

If you’re a designer in Utah and you’re feeling all alone out there…you’re not! AIBD’s Second Vice President Bernie Kern and Executive Director Steve Mickley are hosting a virtual meeting to explore the potential of an AIBD chapter in Salt Lake City. As 2nd VP, Bernie focuses on external outreach, which includes chapter development and success.

“We have over 60 contacts in Utah with two thirds of them being around the Salt Lake City area.” Bernie reports.

Utah is one of dozens of areas President Kevin Holdridge wishes to pursue chapter development in 2017.

“In December, our staff created ‘pin-maps’ of each state to expose where we have our greatest number of contacts and members.” Says Kevin.

Other areas of interest include Minneapolis, MN; Jacksonville, FL; Omaha, NE; Raleigh/Durham, NC and Baltimore/Washington.

“We have over 100 communities where we show ten or more contacts” Kevin adds. “These cities are just a beginning.”

Please RSVP. GoToMeeting space is limited to 25 participants.

Upcoming GreenHome Institute webinars (free)!

Zero Made Easy: DOE Zero Energy Ready Home Specifications. Pt2 – Free CEU Webinar

February 1, 12:00 pm – 1:15 pm (Eastern)

Car efficiency is partly measured in “Miles Per Gallon” or MPG, but how do we measure home performance?

The HERS Index Score is the most widely recognized way to measure home performance but just like a car, there’s a lot more than just one metric to measure.

DOE has established a label for Zero Energy Ready Homes that recognizes how critical it is to ensure both energy efficiency and high-performance.

In this webinar, you’ll learn how the DOE Zero Energy Ready Home specifications provide a systems-based path to deliver energy efficient high-performance homes today.

You’ll learn

  • The DOE technical specifications associated with zero energy ready performance.
  • Technologies and design strategies to meet DOE Zero Energy Ready thresholds for efficiency and performance.
  • How the DOE technical specifications are aligned with the key value propositions for Zero Energy Ready Homes.
  • And more!

From the website:

Talks include…

  • How to add value with light
  • Creativity in human-centric design and circadian rhythm
  • Lighting’s role in the narration of museums and galleries
