Texas member wins Platinum Award.

AIBD Professional member, Bruce Sommers of Ashworth Design & Remodeling in Kingwood, Texas, took home a Platinum Award at last Thursday night’s Professional Remodeler Design Awards 2014 reception in Baltimore, Maryland. Bruce’s project won the Whole House $300,000 to $750,000 category. “We removed the entire second floor and raised the ceilings of the first. It made a dramatic change to the way the house feels.” Bruce said. There were a multitude of other changes Bruce designed into the winning entry with a notable one being the new Kitchen (shown left). Professional Remodeler magazine will be publishing all of the Platinum Award winners in their November 2014 issue. Get a copy and check out more photos of Bruce’s work.

Bruce Sommers Award 2The Professional Remodeler Design Awards accepted projects completed between Jan. 1, 2011 and July 15, 2014. Expert judges evaluated work in 22 categories based on quality, design, problem solving, and creativity.

There are 10 separate reporting sections under Acquisition in your website’s Google Analytics profile. The Acquisition section tells you where your visitors originated from, such as search engines, social networks or website referrals. This is a key section when determining which online marketing tactics are bringing the most visitors to your website.

AIBD Board votes to support Design & Construction Week.

The AIBD Board of Directors approved a resolution supporting Design & Construction weekTM(DCW). DCW features the co-location of the NAHB International Builders’ Show® (IBS) and the National Kitchen & Bath Association’s Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS). In 2015, it will also include three Partner Events – the International Window Coverings Expo (IWCE), Las Vegas Market, which includes home furnishings & décor, accessories and gifts; and, The International Surface Event (TISE) – made up of SURFACES, StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas and TileExpo.

Located again in Las Vegas, the 2nd annual DCW will take place January 18-23, 2015 and will bring together 125,000+ design and construction professionals in the largest annual gathering of the housing industry. This synchronization of tradeshows and markets will have direct benefits for all those in the design and construction industries.

While housing starts were up 6.3% in September compared to August, the increase was led by an 18.5% rise in multifamily and a 1.1% rise in single-family. YTD single-family starts are up just 4%; multifamily are up 23%! Single-family permits now stand at 624,000 seasonally-adjusted, essentially unchanged from where they were in 2/13, when they hit 611,000, and surpassed 600,000 for the first time since the end of the recession.
