AIBD CEWall bracing webinar rescheduled!

Meeting the Code with Prescriptive Wall Bracing

Tuesday – July 22nd, 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm ET

Originally scheduled for this Thursday, July 17th, the second in a series of five wall bracing webinars presented by the APA has been moved to Tuesday, July 22nd. Bob Clark, Senior Engineered Wood Specialist, has been chosen to serve on a jury and the trial could possible run all week this week. I hope you can join us at the new date and time.

With sixteen different braced wall types, various tables, exceptions, alternates, and connection requirements to meet the bracing requirements of the IRC, it can be seen as a very complex topic for homebuilders and designers. This webinar will break down the general requirements of wall bracing and show how to use the tables within the code to determine if braced wall lines meet the requirements. Presented the wall bracing experts at the APA.

Is your Houzz account breaking the law?

Mike Keesee, Florida Society Internal VP, reported this week a building design firm in his state is being investigated for violating the architectural laws because of their listing on Houzz.com. However, with prompt responses from the staff at Houzz, a category for “Building Designer and Drafter” has been established to avoid prosecution.

If you have a Houzz account and you are not a licensed or registered design professional in your state, verify that you have been placed in the Building Designer and Drafter category. This new category differentiates you from the architects” and interior designers but still keeps you within the search function of “Architects and Designers” as a sub-category.

AIBD Membership Chairperson, Kevin Holdridge, has been in direct contact with the staff at Houzz about this issue. “[Houzz] changed my status to Building Designer but under their search engine it looks to be a sub-category of Architects and Designers.” Kevin reported to the National Office. “The designation of Building Designer is still under the umbrella of the Architect/Designer search engine.”
