Chapter planning begins in Greenville, NC.
Members gathered for a planning meeting in Greenville, North Carolina, hoping establish an AIBD Chapter. At the meeting they worked on goals and picked a name for the proposed Chapter. The name, at least for now, will be the “Downeast Chapter”. Their region of the State is referred to by all local media as “Downeast”, which includes from Greenville to the coast and up to the Virginia line. Greenville is made-up of the University, Medical Center and Agricultural industries. Then to the Coast where it is largely vacation, retirement and Military installation communities.
The members are planning a Meet, Greet and Eat in Greenville on the 11th of August at a Winslow’s, a local restaurant. The gathering starts at 6:00 PM for a Dutch meal with the hope of attracting a variety individuals representing a array of residential construction related companies. There will be a separate planning meeting for potential Chapter members.

Discover the elements of British West Indies-inspired architecture.
- Date: August 21, 2015
- Time: 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. (ET)
- Location: Smith and Deshields, 3126 Jupiter Park Dr, Jupiter, FL
- Cost: $75 – AIBD members; $100 – non-members (includes box lunch)
Have lunch and spend the afternoon with Steve Mouzon discussing the nuances of British West Indies-inspired architecture.
In broad terms, British West Indies-style homes reflect the architecture built by the British in the Caribbean colonies during the late 18th and 19th centuries. The French and Dutch also offered their own architectural style in the islands. Mr. Mouzon will bring to life the characteristics of this wonderful mix of influences created from the interactions of the cultures in the Caribbean.
Steve Mouzon is an architect, urbanist, author, blogger, and photographer from Miami. He founded the New Urban Guild, which helped to foster the Katrina Cottages Movement. The Guild hosts Project:SmartDwelling, which works to redefine the house to be much smaller and more sustainable. Steve founded and is a board member of the Guild Foundation; it hosts the Original Green initiative. Steve speaks regularly across the US and abroad and blogs on the Original Green Blog. He also posts to the Original Green Twitter stream.
The event is being hosted by American Institute of Building Design, Palm Beach Chapter at the Smith and DeShields showroom in Jupiter, FL. Smith & DeShields is a family-owned business offering building supplies to the trade since 1957. Their showrooms have a vast selection of popular hardware brands and also many smaller, unique lines that can give a home a special look. Their extensive inventory makes Smith & DeShields, Inc. one of the largest hardware stocking dealers in Florida.

AIBD invites 15 people to participate in a pilot review of the National Council of Building Designer Certification (NCBDC) Job Analysis survey. The purpose of this study is to identify the tasks performed by a building design professional, as well as the important knowledge and skills required to effectively perform this role. The results of the survey will allow NCBDC to ensure that their certification services reflect current practices among building design professionals.
Volunteers can start immediately and will have until next Monday, July 27th, to complete their work.
The content included in this survey was reviewed, discussed, and revised by a Task Force of practicing building design professionals at a recent meeting in July. Your input will help us improve the survey instrument before it is sent to a broad sample of building design professionals for their input. Reviewing the pilot survey may take up to two hours and requires an internet connection.
