The American Residential Design Awards has been expanded to include both the AIBD Annual Design Competition and the Concrete Décor Awards. Check out the categories that available to AIBD members only and the new decorative concrete categories that are open to the entire industry.
The deadline to register is May 31st and the entry binders must be in by June 19th. Also, ARDA has new addresses – read the forms carefully!
…Can NCBDC go on demand?
What if the NCBDC exam was available in 240 locations almost anytime throughout the year? That is the opportunity Executive Director, Steve Mickley is investigating today with ACT Testing Centers. That’s correct; the same people who deliver the college entrance exams at schools around the country are interested in delivering the NCBDC Certified Professional Building Designer certification exam. According to the ACT website, 85% of America’s population lives within 2 hours of one of their test sites. Today’s meeting was arranged by ExamSoft, which is exam software originally created for the Bar Exam and now available to testing bodies such as NCBDC. Steve has also investigated the feasibility of utilizing ExamSoft to transform the paper and pencil comprehensive portion of the NCBDC exam to electronic. As a result, a presentation by ExamSoft is scheduled for the next Board of Examiners meeting on May 7th.
…AIBD judges remodeling excellence.
Past AIBD President, Sam Liberti, has been invited to be one of three Chrysalis Awards judges. Sam will be working with Louis Joyner, formally with Southern Living, and Dan Gregory of HousePlans.com. The jury will be gathered Tuesday through Thursday in Savannah, Georgia, and will be reviewing over 300 remodeling projects submitted from builders, designers and architects throughout the U.S. The Chrysalis Awards, for remodeling excellence, is located in Tallahassee, Florida, and has existed as a building and design awards program since 1995.
…AIBD Florida gets the VISION first.
Green Builder Media and Disney have invited some executive officers of the AIBD Florida Society to tour the VISION House two days before it opens to the public on Earthday weekend. Representing the society is President, David Pillsbury, Past President, Allen Beaumont, and Society VP, Mike Keesee. Also invited are John Fought, NCBDC VP, another society Past President, Jim Lucia, and from the AIBD National Office, Steve Mickley, is scheduled to be in attendance. Sara Gutterman of GBM will be guiding the tour of the model home constructed within EPCOT’s Innoventions pavilion as an example of today’s most innovative and modern sustainable design and construction materials and techniques. AIBD Certified Professional member and digital marketing enthusiast, Mark Johnson, is spearheading the social facet of the evening’s festivities and has invited a number of notable bloggers.
