WALL PERFORMANCE BY DESIGN: The Role of Rain Screens in Moisture Management

Wednesday, 11:00 am to 12:00 pm EST

Receive an overview of engineered rain screen materials, technologies, and performance, and explain the science behind the draining and drying of walls- particularly behind absorptive claddings- including masonry veneer, stucco, fiber cement and wood. The presentation will also include helpful information about design issues, including the need for proper detailing of flashing, transitions, and penetrations.

…A sneak peek at TNAH 2012:

AIBD Executive Director, Steve Mickley, will receive a behind the scenes glimpse of The New American Home (TNAH) 2012 on Thursday evening. The IBS show house is designed and built by AIBD Certified Professional member and 2010/2011 ARDA Best of Show winner Phil Kean of Phil Kean Designs in Winter Park, Florida. Also involved in the project are AIBD members Peter Shipp of Architectural Electronics, Mike Keesee and Carl Brown, both of Florida Design Solutions.

Now in its 29th year, The New American Home (TNAH) is constructed annually in conjunction with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) International Builders’ Show to showcase innovative construction technologies and the latest building products. NAHB will hold the 2012 International Builders’ Show in Orlando, February 8-11.

…A new student chapter kicks off:

Seminole State College’s Architectural Design and Building Construction Technology Program is kicking off a new student chapter on Friday. Steve Mickley and AIBD Florida Society President, David Pillsbury, are scheduled to attend the event hosted by the chapter’s faculty advisor Tony Ruggiero and the first class of AIBD student members.

Once started, the SSC chapter will be the AIBD’s second active student body nationally and Florida’s only student chapter. Currently, the University of Central Missouri also has an active Student chapter with 17 members and growing.

…AIBD Florida ends the year with a Greenovation:

Join your Florida AIBD colleagues on Saturday for a tour of the Greenovation of Terra Verde, a real home with real solutions, designed by FAIBD Jim Lucia. Jim will be providing tours of the home & ranch and Dr. Anna Marie and Dr. Jennifer Languell are the featured speakers. Executive Director, Steve Mickley will be attending and is looking forward to the mini-trade show lunch served by Dr. Anna Marie’s favorite Sushi & Japanese Food Truck. “It appears the lunch wagons have really stepped it up since I worked on a construction site, but seriously, I’m really looking forward to the full day of networking and learning.” said Steve.
