August 6, 2012. What’s Happening @AIBD_national?

…Designers’ Choice voting closes tomorrow.

Only 28 AIBD members have voted for the Designers’ Choice award. Come on people…there were at least that many entering projects! Go to www.ResidentialDesignAwards.com and cast your vote today. Voting ends TONIGHT night at midnight.

While you’re at it, your choice may also be entered in the Global Choice award program too. While the Designers’ Choice is limited to only AIBD members, everyone around the world is invited to help us choose the Global Choice winner. So far, over 600 people from 15 countries have voted. One of them will win a KitchenAid stand mixer courtesy of AIBD Corporate member Whirlpool. Winners will be announced on Wednesday night.

…A new CE Policy

Yesterday, the AIBD House of Delegates voted to change the AIBD Continuing Education Policy to include AIBD Certified Professional members only. Since the mid-nineties, all Professional members, both certified and not, were required to report eight CE credits each year in order to maintain their Professional member status. Beginning immediately, on the Certified Professional members are required to report.

Despite the policy change, AIBD Professional members may need to obtain CE credits for designations other than those issued by the AIBD. Therefore, the staff will still be recording credits earned by all AIBD members in their online transcript as a convenience.

…Welcome new Professional members

The AIBD House of Delegates also voted to eliminate the Associate Practicing membership category thus automatically elevating all the members at that level to Professional member status. The Membership Committee reported, “This action will establish one membership category, one fee and equal rights and privileges for all designer members.” This action will take effect immediately and will also help to streamline the application process for those joining AIBD.

…A new application process is adopted

Another action taken by the Delegates changed the procedures for Professional member applicants. Soon, new members will apply using less paperwork or no paper using an online application process. “In the past, it has taken weeks, sometimes even months, for applicants to get their membership approved. With the changes made today, the state societies and the national staff will be able to process a “pending” membership instantly giving the new member immediate access to membership benefits.” says AIBD Executive Director Steve Mickley. Once the pending member’s years of experience and references have been verified, the membership will be considered active and in good standing.

…HPMA and Hanley Wood forge ePlans.com agreement.

During their annual meeting yesterday, the House Plan Marketing Alliance, a council of the AIBD that includes designers and publishers offering stock house plans for sale, ratified a proposal by Hanley Wood to create a featured collection of HPMA member plans on their ePlans.com website. Though any designer interested in contributing to the stock house plan market can join the HPMA, only AIBD Certified Professional members, licensed architects, engineers, and licensed Nevada Residential Designers will be eligible to participate. More information will sent out by the national staff once they’ve conclude the AIBD national convention at the end of this week.

…Sorry, no First Tuesday @ 2:00

This week the AIBD staff is focused on hosting the AIBD National Convention in Wilmington, North Carolina, and won’t be able to host a First Tuesday @ 2:00 program this month. The next program will be on September 4th at 2:00 pm ET. The staff is working on gathering a panel of designers using Houzz.com. “AIBD members are reporting that they are gaining client contacts using Houzz.com and I would like to find out more about how they are doing that.” reports Steve Mickley.
