April 28, 2014. What’s happening @AIBD_National?

Richard Willhardt (left) is presented the Designer of the Year Award by Colorado President Bernie Kern.

Colorado names Designer of the Year.

On April 25th the AIBD Colorado Society started a new tradition of recognizing achievements by AIBD Colorado members. This year Richard Willhardt is the AIBD Colorado Society’s Designer of the Year. Thanks to Richard for 34 years of service to the AIBD, including 6 years as Society President. Richard has also been a significant participant on all of our Habitat for Humanity volunteer projects. Richard attends all of our meetings and is our current Society Secretary. Richard was honored during the AIBDCO Spring Conference in Lakewood, Colorado featuring a Sketchup Workflow by Michael Brightman and a BuildEdge presentation by Aaron Dietzen.

Welcome new Colorado members!

The AIBD Colorado Society would like to welcome two new members to the AIBD. New member Dennis Asher, owner of his own business called Latigo Home Design, featuring residential house design. Dennis is an associate to Nighthawk Design and AIBD member Rod Wiebe. He specializes in MEP drawings and as Rod would say, “his right hand man”. Our other new member is actually a rejoining member, David Harris. David owns  AEDesigns and has been a longtime designer in the Colorado Springs area. I’ve had the pleasure working with David on past projects and can say that AIBD has gained an excellent detail orientated designer. Welcome to the AIBD, Dennis and David.

ICE invites AIBD to review continuing competency framework.

The Institute of Competency Excellence (ICE) has invited AIBD to participate in a unique opportunity to drive the future of credible, valuable and meaningful continuing competence programs. The ICE draft document Framework for Continuing Competence document presents the basis for this momentum.

AIBD’s CEO, Steve Mickley has been invited to participate in a focus group to review the framework and perform the following tasks:

  • Help ICE create solid, useful tools and processes tailored to the needs of credentialing executives;
  • Establish the change management plan for executives that will have an impact on how continuing competence programs are designed in the future;
  • Critically evaluate the Framework for Continuing Competence* document; and
  • Fuel ICE’s strategic focus on the concept of Continuing Competence.

Currently, the NCBDC certification program uses continuing education as its means for verifying continued competence. the Framework for Continuing Competence will be the first set of guidelines designed to help certification bodies compare new and existing programs to industry endorsed model practices.
