Merry Christmas from AIBD!
Since this edition of the MondayMINUTE falls on December 25th, the staff at AIBD want to wish all those who celebrate a Merry Christmas.
To everyone else, enjoy your holidays as well!
Next week, the MondayMINUTE falls on January 1st, and we will give a sneak peek at what 2018 holds for AIBD.
Palm Beach Chapter’s new tradition is a mini golf success!
This past week the AIBD, Palm Beach Chapter hosted its inaugural Mark Shone Mini Golf Classic, a fundraiser for the AIBD Student member scholarship efforts. There were ten registrants and eight of them took to the interesting and fun course, which included obstacles such as rapids, waterfalls, undulating holes, fish tanks, caverns and other golfers. The field of golfers were fiercely competitive…well, maybe severely humorous. Professional member Toby Berndt of Shoreline Designs, Jupiter, won the first annual honor, returning to the club house with a respectable +4 (that’s 4 over par, which was 39 for 18 holes). Toby also claimed one of the day’s three holes-in-one, helping him beat his closest challenger, Bill Hammel of Brildan Florida, Ft. Lauderdale, by only three strokes. Chapter Chairman, Richard Davis, also of Shoreline Designs, declared the afternoon a “mini golf success” and announced the holiday classic would return in December, 2018.
The event raised $221 for the AIBD College of Fellow’s Annette Farmer Scholarship Fund. The scholarship program began in 2008 by the late W.D. (Bill) Farmer who named it after his wife. He instructed the College of Fellows to award a $1000 scholarship to a deserving Student member each year. Since Bill’s $15,000 endowment, the fund now depends on individual donations to survive.
The chapter will be donating the funds on behalf of Mark Shone, CPBD, a dedicated local member, passed away after a brief illness this past June. Mark was a gifted residential designer who became an AIBD member in 1995, when the Florida Residential Designers Association became the AIBD Florida Society. For years before that, he served as an officer, board member, and loyal volunteer of the FRDA. Help the chapter keep his memory alive through this annual fundraiser.
Save the date!
Next year’s Mark Shone Mini-Golf Classic will be held on December 14, 2018 at Lighthouse Cove Adventure Golf, Jupiter, Florida.
The First Tuesday @ 2:00 Returns!
Begin 2018 knowing how home construction activity will perform and how tax reform will affect our industry.
Economist, Elliot Eisenberg, PhD will cover GDP growth, job growth, inflation rates and interest rates. He will update us on the housing market with reports on inventory, house prices, renovation activity, new home construction activity and more. Have a much better idea about how 2018 will look and how home renovation activity will perform and why. Special attention will also be devoted to tax reform and its impact on house prices and your business. If time allows, we will announce the launch of AIBD’s Residential Design Index (RDI), the industry’s newest leading indicator measuring the current workload, backlog, and stock plan sales.

Automate Your Social Media Marketing (Tutorial)
I get it, you’re busy. Buildings don’t design themselves.
But as we’ve talked about before, social media marketing is important and you need to continue to grow your firm if you want to continue to grow your revenue.
I’ve mentioned before that the real strength in social media is interacting with your customers, but that you should also be posting out regularly. You can’t automate human interaction (that wouldn’t make it human anymore), but we can automate your social media marketing. That’s what we’re going to do in this blog post.
Check it out on the AIBD Blog.
