January 23, 2012. What’s happening @AIBD_national?

…AIBD Georgia kicks off 2012.

This Wednesday, the AIBD Georgia Society will host their first 2012 quarterly meeting in Atlanta. One important item of business is to install their newly elected Executive Board. In addition, they will have a wonderfully unique presentation by one of the premier architectural products companies in the south east, Francois and Company, who will be hosting the gathering at their Atlanta Showroom.

Francois and Company has been supplying the most beautiful, intricately detailed carved stone mantels, historical artistic fireplace hoods, staircases, entryways and so much more for fashionable homes since 1997.

…AIBD Iowa elects new leadership.

  • President: Alvin Stecker
  • Vice President: Dennis White
  • Secretary: Matt Barrick
  • Treasurer: Jason Ainsworth
  • National Director: Alvin Stecker
  • National Director: Todd Von Stein

We also would like to thank the past president, Douglas Guyer, for his may years of service to the Institute and the society.

…CEs for the executive.

AIBD Executive Director, Steve Mickley, is attending a quarterly “open source” gathering with other small staffed association CEOs this Thursday evening in Washington, DC. Hosted through the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), the event begins with a small list of topics provided in advance by the attendees and together they come up with ideas, solutions, information or training on each topic, on the spot.

“I’m particularly looking forward to the discussion on the subject of working with regional chapters and societies.” Says Steve. “The economy and changing demographics in our industry seem to have increased the ‘competition’ between the national office and the state societies for the attention of the volunteers.” He adds, “I hope to find out if other associations with similar structures are seeing the same issues and if they have successfully overcome the challenges.”

This meeting is timely and relevant as the AIBD midyear meeting approaches. There, the Society Officers Committee will be meeting to begin their work for 2012 and Committee Chairman, Bernie Kern, has established these two goals for 2012:

  • Develop a meeting where officers can get advice, help, and ideas to use to help their Society’s grow in participation and involvement and membership.
  • Have this Committee provide an outlet for new State Society Officers with a guideline to Officer responsibilities.
